Purpose : Intestinal malrotation is a developmental anomaly and may be complicated by volvulus and intestinal necrosis. We performed anatomic classification and compared clinical profiles to understand their relationship.
Methods : Twenty-eight children were diagnosed as intestinal malrotation at Seoul National University Children's Hospital between Jan. 1980 to Dec. 1995. The patients were classified into 4 groups by age at... |

intestinal obstruction and pathologically by hyperplasia of the submucosal and myenteric plexuses
with formation of giant ganglia. Chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction is a clinical diagnosis,
composed of myopathic form and neuropathic form, and normal intestinal histology. Intestinal
neuronal dysplasia is a neuropathic form of chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction. The clinical

The Nutcracker syndrome refers to compression of the left renal vein between the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery, associated with hematuria, abdominal pain, and varicocele formation.
We report a 13-year-old boy with intermittent gross hematuria for 14 months before admission. Ultrasonography shows narrowing of proximal left renal- vein and dilatation of distal left renal vein at the point of superior... |

Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is common in the premature infants and occurs mainly in subependymal germinal matrix. In contrast, IVH in the term infants is rare and different in pathogenesis and bleeding sites from those of the premature infants. Most studies of IVH in term infants have been studied by computerized tomography and postmortem examination. Brain ultrasonography which has become a... |

The 45 neonates with bronchopulmonary dysplasia among 355 neonates who were managed with mechanical ventilation and oxygen therapy in NICU of Seoul National University Chhildren's Hospital from January 1, 1968 to December 31, 1991, were analyzed for risk factors and outcome.
The results were as follows:
1) The incidence of bronchopulmonary dysplasia was 12.7%

Caroli’s disease was first described by Caroli in 1958 and characterized by segmental cystic
dilatation of the intrahepatic bile ducts. There is stasis of bile with stone formation in the dilatated
ducts, giving rise to frequent attacks of pain and cholangitis.
In the past, diagnosis of the Caroli’s disease is rarely established prior to operation and subsequent
cholangiography. Recently, with ultrasonography, computerized tomography, radioisotope... |

at Seoul National University Children’s Hospital in 1986. Successful results were obtained in all cases.
But one child with narrowing of the innominate artery, thoracic aorta and occlusion of the left
subclavian artery showed the most dramatic improvement clinically as well as radiologically because
the lesions were focal. PT A is... |
