Clin Exp Pediatr. 2014;57(5):232-239.   Published online May 31, 2014
Purpose

Mitochondrial disease (MD) and Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) are often associated with cardiomyopathy, but the myocardial variability has not been isolated to a specific characteristic. We evaluated the left ventricular (LV) mass by echocardiography to identify the general distribution and functional changes of the myocardium in patients with MD or DMD.

Methods

We retrospectively evaluated the echocardiographic data of 90 children with...

Changes in N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide in a neonate with symptomatic isolated left ventricular noncompaction
Ji Hyeun Song, Yeo Hyang Kim, Chun Soo Kim, Sang Lak Lee, Tae Chan Kwon
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2009;52(1):129-132.   Published online January 15, 2009
We describe here our experience with a neonate presenting with cyanosis, grunting, and cardiomegaly, who was diagnosed with isolated left ventricular noncompaction (IVNC) by echocardiography. The patient had high levels of N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT pro-BNP) and symptoms of heart failure including poor feeding and tachypnea. During the period in which NT pro-BNP levels steadily increased, the patient suffered...

Clin Exp Pediatr. 2002;45(12):1528-1533.   Published online December 15, 2002
Purpose : Isolated noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium(INVM) is one of the unclassified cardiomyopathies that is characterized by numerous, excessively prominent trabeculations, and deep intertrabecular recesses. We performed this study to evaluate the clinical features of INVM in children. Methods : The medical records of 10 patients with INVM were reviewed. We analyzed the clinical manifestations, hemodynamics, pattern of inheritance,...
The Influence of the Preoperative Chronic Cyanosis on the Cardiac Troponin I in the Pediatric Cardiac Operation
Jinyoung Song, Sungkyu Lee, Jaeyoung Lee, Soojin Kim, Wooseup Shim
Clin Exp Pediatr. 2002;45(4):498-504.   Published online April 15, 2002
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the perioperative myocardial damage in pediatric congenital heart disease with the cardiac specific protein of cardiac troponin I(cTpn-I). Methods : All 25 pediatric patients who were diagnosed with tetralogy of Fallot or double outlet right ventricle were classified as group A(acyanotic, SaO2 >90%), group B(mildly cyanotic, SaO2 >80-90%) and group C(moderately...
