Purpose : This study was aimed to evaluate the feasibility of echo-Doppler study on fetal lamb, analyse the distribution of blood flow before and after fetal cardiac bypass, and consequently assess the effect of fetal cardiac bypass on the fetal cardiovascular system.
Methods : Ten fetal lambs at 120 to 150 days of gestation which underwent cardiac bypass for 30 minutes... |

Purpose : There are controversies in the operative methods of aorta with ventricular
septal defect in infancy. Recent results of single stage operation for coarctation of aorta
with intracardiac defects were regarded as comparable to staged operation. We evaluated
our interim results after single stage operation for coarctation of aorta with large
ventricular septal defect in infancy.
Methods : Twenty six infants who had received... |

Purpose : The association of the tetralogy of Fallot(TOF) with the complete form of
atrioventricular septal defect(AVSD) is rare cardiac malformation. The predominant clinical findings in both groups of cases were those associated with tetralogy of Fallot, but certain features need to be emphasized, however.
Methods : Forteen(2%) out of 659 patients with tetralogy of Fallot seen at the department of pediatrics, Seoul... |

Angiodysplasia(AD) of the gastrointestinal(GI) tract in children is a very rare cause of bleeding and thought to be a distinct clinicopathologic entity distingishing from the classic adult-type AD by its different clinical settings and diverse histology.
We report two cases of AD involving the sigmoid colon in children. The cases, 6-year-old girl and 11-year-old boy, were preoperatively suspected by colonoscopy and... |

Neurologic complications after open-heart surgery are not only relatively common but also often fatal. In order to know the clinical characteristics and carsative risk factors, we carried out the retrospective study on 655 patients who had been admitted and undergone OHS at Seoul National University Children's Hospital during 2-year period from July 1990 to June 1992. The results... |

Anomalous origin of the pulmonary artery from the ascending aorta is a rare congenital cardiovascular anomaly which usually involves the right pulmonary artery.
Because congestive heart failure and the pulmonary vascular obstructive changes develop early in life, early diagnosis and surgical correction are essential.
We experienced two cases of anomalous origin of the right pulmonry artery from the ascending aorta; aorticopulmonary septal... |

Korean hemorrhagic fever is acute febrile illness caused by Hantan virus. It involves capillaries and small vessels systemically, and leads to dysfunctions of many organs, esp. kidney. In recent years, we have experienced 4 cases of korean hemorrhagic fever in children’s age group. Diagnosis was confirmed by immunofluorescent technique in one case and renal biopsy was done in 2 cases.... |

Replacement of cardiac valves in the pediatric patients is infrequent compared with in adult for the treatment of diseased heart valve. Furthermore, uncertainties regarding the long term fate of prosthetic value and effects of a fixed-orifice walve in the growing children are the main concern in pedriatric patients. Between January 1974 and October 1979, in 10 children, 15years or younger,... |
