Citrobacter although once regarded as nonpathogenic, has been responsible for many well- documented pathologic conditions, especially in compromised hosts. These include urinary tract, pulmonary and bone infections, gastroenteritis, gangrenous ulcer with septicemia, meningitis, and brain abscess.
