Abstract
I nt ussuscept i on is the condition of invagination of one part of intestinal loop into the contiguous distal segment. During infancy and early childhood, intussusception is the most common cause of acquired intestinal obstruction, and it requires emergency treatment. Recently, the use of ultrasound as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool of intussusception is now becoming a well-established method because it is simple, rapid, noninvasive, painless, with the least waste of time or radiation exposure and requires no special preparation. A gray scale ultrasound evaluation of 5 cases of intussusceeption was presented. All of them showed “target-like” shadow with central dence echoes and peripheral sonolucency which is the typical ultrasonographic finding of intussuscption. And they were treated by hydrostatic reduction with warm saline under the ultrasound guidance successfully.
Key Words: Abdominal ultrasound, Intussuscption, Hydrostatic reduction.
