Abstract
The measurement of serum total cholesterol was made in 1 month to 16 years of age group (total 1505, male 700, female 805) to know the normal value on each age and sex group, and incidence of hypercholesterolemia in children. The results were as follows: 1) Serum total cholesterol levels were 163.12¡¾38.01 mg/dl in male, 165.69¡¾38.24 mg/dl in female, and 164.40¡¾38.12 mg/dl in both. 2) Serum total cholesterol levels show significantly low in.l month to 1 year of age groups and high in 10 to 12 years of age group. 3) In each sex group, there was the highest level in 10 to 11 years of age group in female and in 11 to 12 years of age group in male. 4) There was no correlation between serum total cholesterol level and body weight percentile in both sex. 5) The incidence of hypercholesterolemia was as follows: over 220 mg/dl in 14.89p, over 250 mg/dl in 8.5%, and over 270 mg/dl in 2.2%.
