Abstract |
Forty one cases of culture were taken from the eyelids of the newborn, immediately after birth, and before the cord was cut, in the delivery room of Pusan Sanitorium and Hospital, and Pusan National University Hospital from Aug. 15 to Oct. 15,1965. And the possible causative organisms of neonatal ophthalmitis were studied. 1)92.5 per cent of cultures were positive, and one to two organisms were isolated in each positive cultures. 2)A total 7 organisms were identified, and the most common organisms were staphylococcus aureus and E.coli, and they were 36.9 per cent and 28.2 per cent of total, respectively. 3)Gonococcus was not isolated. 4)Pathogenic organism was Candida albicans, and it was 13 per cent of total organisms.
