Abstract

Five cases of chronic constrictive pericarditis were presented. The youngest patient was 5 year-old and all of 5 cases were male. The common chief complaints were abdominal distention and dyspnea with the duration between 5 months to 3 years. Engorgement of neck vein and hepatomegaly were found in all 5 cases. Ascites and abdominal distention were found in 4 cases. Chest X-ray, EKG and cardiac catheterization studies were performed. The etiology was tuberculous in three cases, staphylococcal in one case and idiopathic in 1 patient. Pericardiectomy was performed in all 5 cases. Post-operative results were excellent to good in 3 cases and fair in 2 patients. A brief review of literatures was made.
