Abstract
Authors presented a statistical observation of 1, 838 cases of pediatric surgical patients under 15 years of age treated at St. Mary’s hospital from Jan. 1960 to Aug. 1968. The results obtained were as follows: 1) The proportion of main diseases were as follows: Appendicitis 13. 4% (247) Bone tuberculosis 12. 2% (223) Fracture 10.2% (189) Osteomyelitis 8.1% (149) Hernia 8.1% (144) Burn 4.2% (79) Intussusception 4.2% (74) Brain contusion 3.1% (67) 2) In the intussusception, the sex ratio was 3.1:1 (M:F) and the most frequent age group was from birth up to 3 years of age (84%). 3)In the bone tbc, the sex ratio was 1.8:1 (M:F) and the most frequent age group was 3 years to 9 years of age (66%). 4) In the fracture, the sex ratio was 2. 6-1 (M:F) and the most frequent age was from 6 years to 9 years of age (59.2%). 5)In the appendicitis, the sex ratio was 1. 8:1 (M:F) and the age of greatest incidence was between 9 and 15 years.
