Abstract
Incidence of helminthic infestation in pediatric age group was studied. 1.Screened total of 3, 983 childrens, including 1,862 in-patients and 2,121 out-patients, from 1 year to 1 5 years old, who came to the Department of Pediatrics, Maryknoll Hospital in Busan, Korea from January 1966 to July 1974. 2.In stool examination 38% of in.patients(male 35.8%, female 42.2%) and 48.6% of out patients(male 46.2%, female 51.9%) revealed positive to more than one parasite. 3. In reviewing multiplicity of infestation, 24.9% of in-patients were infested with one kind of parasite, 11,7% with two and 1.5% with three, whereas 33.9% of out-patients were infested with one, 13.3% with two, and 1.4% with three. 4.The mode of infestation can be divided into 3 groups. Below 1 year old, the rate infestation was least, over 1 year to 6 years old, gradually increased, over 6 years, the highest. 5.In in-patients the kind of parasites were T. trichiura(24.9%), Ascaris lumbricoides(22.2%), T. orientalis(20%), C. sinensis(l. 9%) and Ankylostoma duodenalis(l. 3%) in order, whereas out-patients showed higher rate of infestation than those of in-patients and the order of infestation was the same as in-patients except C. sinensis was more than. T. orientalis. And the ova of A. lumbricoides and T. Trichiura began to appear in the stool of 5-month-olds and Ankylostoma duodenale in that of 10-month-olds. 6.In sex distribution female showed much higher rate of infestation than male. 7. No. significant seasonal and annual incidence were present. Finally, differed from adult we have to pay almost attention to the feeding problems of the infant below 1 year old. And we must educate our children toward clean healthy environments and health education
