Abstract
We observed 75 cases of severe anemia who were admitted to Department. Of Pediatrics of Maryknoll hospital from Jan. 1974 to Dec. 1976. The following results were obtained. 1) 925 cases(40.3%) of the total admitted patients(2,298 cases) had mild degree of anemia(below 10.5gm/dl) and 75 cases(3.3%) showed severe anemia (below 7.0gm/dl). 2) Male to female ratio was 1.5 to 1. 3) The highest incidence was found in the under 2 years of age(42.7%). The second most common age was between 3 years and 4 years. 4) The common causes of severe anemia were leukemia, infection, aplastic anemia, malnutrition, and iron def-iciency anemia. Appreximately half of them were leukemia and infection.
