Abstract
Human milk fat is the main energy sourse of the newborn infant. In addition to providing 50% of the total calories in Human milk, fats are essential to normal development because they provide fatty acids necessary for brain development are an integral part of all cell menbrance and are the sole vehicle for fat soluble Vitamin and Hormones in milk mature Human milk has a fat content of 3.0% to 4.5%. Milk fat content and composition change during lactation. Whereas the triglyceride level rises, the phospholipid and cholesterol concentrations decrease during the transition from Colostrum to Mature milk. The author determined Human milk fat concentration during lactation in 68 cases of healthy lactation woman. Human milk fat fractionation was performed by Total Lipid Reagent and standard set(sulfo-phosphovanillin method), Triglyceride ABBOTT agent (Enzyme method), V-Cholestase(NISSUI, Enzyme method), Phospholipids B-Test(Enzyme method) along with the human milk lipid analysis: Total lipid, Triglycerides, Cholesterol and Phospholipid were also determined in each sample.The results observed are summarized as follow: 1) The mean levels of Human milk total lipid in Colostrum, Transitional and Mature milk were 2267±655 mg/dl, 2910±699 mg/dl and 3915±684 mg/dl, respectively. 2) The mean levels of Human milk Triglyceride in Colostrum, Transitional and Mature milk were 2,246±458 mg/dl, 3,012±580 mg/dl and 3,895±323 mg/dl, respectively. 3) The mean levels of Human milk Cholesterol in Colostrum, Transitional and Mature milk were 13.5±8.0 mg/dl, 10.7±4.7 mg/dl and 10.16±4.2 mg/dl, respectively. 4) The mean levels of Human milk Phospholipid in Colostrum, Transitional and Mature milk were 13.5±5.5 mg/dl, 14.3±4.7 mg/dl, respectively. 5) Human milk fat content and composition change during lactation whereas the Total lipid and Triglyceride levels rises, the Phospholipid and Cholesterol concentration decrease during- the transition from Colostrum to Mature milk. 6) Korean Human milk has Total lipid content of 2.2 gm/dl to 4.1 gm/dl and almost of Total lipid consistes of Triglycerides(98.8% to 99.6%). 7) The mean Total lipid levels of urban and rural woman were 4257 mg/dl, 3913 mg/dl, respectively. The mean Cholesterol levels of urban and rural woman were 11.23 mg/dl, 6.533 mg/dl, respectively.
