A clinical trial for the therapeutic effect of heparin on DIC was conducted on 22 patients of DIC who were admitted to the pediatric department of Yeungnam University Hospital from September 1, 1984 to May 31, 1986. In addition to the conservative treatment, intensive care of underlying disease and specific replacement therapy for DIC, heparin was administered to the one-half of the patients alternatively in order of admission sequence and compared the progress of DIC between study group and control group. Six of 11 patients (54.5%) with heparin treatment and 7 of 11 patients (63.6%) without heparin treatment were recovered from DIC in clincal symptoms and laboratory findings. Heparin therapy in this study neither improved the recovery rate of DIC nor aggravated the bleeding tendency.
Key Words: Heparin therapy, DIC.
