Abstract |
Retrospective follow up studies were done in 52 term infants who were treated at the nursery in
Taegu Fatima Hospital, for clinical evidence of Hypoxic ischemic enecphalopathy (stage II).
All children were followed for a minimum of 6 months.
Factors that significantly correlated with prognosis included 5-minute Apgar scores, the age at the
onset of the seizures, the EEG and the initial brain CT.
(1) Of seven with the severe asphyxia (Apgar score 0 〜3》,six showed the abnormal neurologic
handicap on follow up study (p<0.01).
(2) Of eleven with the occurrence of seizure within 12 hours, seven showed the abnormal neurologic
handicap (p<0.01).
(3) Of fifteen with the abnormal EEG finding, ten shwoed the abnormal neurologic handicap (p<
0.01).
(4) Of sixteen with the abnormal brain CT finding, eleven showed neurologic handicap on follow
up study. Especially nine with the extensive area of hypodensity of the white and gray matter were
severely handicapped (p<0.01). |
