Abstract
A comparative study was retrospectively performed with 1220 strains of staphylococcus aureus isolated from out-patients and in-patients at Kosin Medical Center from Jan. 1986 to Aug. 1989, in oder to find annual prevalence of MRSA and susceptibilities to several antibiotics. The following results were observed; 1) overall annual prevalence of MRSA were 18.9% in 1986, 29.4% in 1987, 46% in 1989 and the yearly increasing tendency was statistically significant. 2) Among pediatric patients, the annual prevalence of MRSA was not different significantly. 3) there was a significant yearly rising tendency in the prevalance of MRSA among external cultures in comparison to internal cultures. However, there was no such increase in pediatric patients. 4) inpatients had more significant yearly increase in the prevalence of MRSA than outpatients. However, there was no such increase in pediatric patients. 5) among inpatients, prevalence t of MRSA was significantly increasing among staphylococcus aureus isolated from speciemen obtained after 48hrs of admission than that obained within 48hrs of admission. 6) All MRSA strains were sensitive to vancomycin.
