A Clinical Study of the Tuberculous Pleurisy in Korean Children

Abstract
A clinical study was carried on 110 patients with tuberculous pleurisy treated at Mokpo Children tuberculous Hospital during the period of 8 years from January, 1965 to December, 1972. The following results were obtained; 1. The tuberculous pleurisy was 4.8% of the all tuberculous patients who admitted during same period. 2. Most of the cases of pleurisy occured in the 3 to 6 years age group. 3. Boys were affected more frequently than girls; ratio male to female was 2. 7 : 1. 4. Seasonal incidence showed most commonly in the Spring, least often in the Winter. 5. Clinical symtoms on admission in order were cough, fever, dyspnea, chest pain, sweating and anorexia. 6. There was a contact history of tuberculosis in 43〔39.1%') of 110 cases. 7. The positive tuberculin test was observed in 92.7% of the cases. 8. The site of effusion was 63. 6% on the right, 33. 6% on the left and 2.8% on both sides. 9. The duration of complete absorption of minimal effusion was taken 4 months in average from the beginning of treatment. 10. Most of all patients were treated with triple primary antituberculosis drugs for 12 months to 18 months.
