Abstract
Nine hundred and twenty-three cases of hematologic disorders in children who were admi-tted to department of pediatrics, SNUH, from 1955 to Oct. 1980 were analysed. The patients consisted of 624 males and 299 females. The results were as follows; 1.Mean annual percentage of hematologic patients among total admitted patients was 6.8%. 2.The peak age incidence of various hematologic disorders was 3〜4 years. Males were affected more frequently than females in all disorders except hereditary spherocytosis. 3.Leukemia was the most common disease which was followed by aplastic anemia, H-S purpura, I.T.P., hemophilia, iron deficiency anemia, hereditary spherocytosis, late hemorrhagic disease of infancy, Kasabach-Merritt syndrome, von Willebrand*s disease in orders. 4.In leukemia, acute type was 94.9% which revealed lymphocytic (58.5%), myelocytic (29.5%), monocytic (3.0%), myelomonocytic(2.5%), erythroleukemia (1.4%) and chronic type was 5.1%. In hemophilia, type A was 79%, type B was 17% and type C was 4%. 5.Most of leukemia and aplastic anemia patients complained of pallor, hemorrhage, fever, lethargy, bone and joint pain, dizziness in order of frequency. 6. In hematologic findings, hemoglobin values of aplastic anemia, leukemia, iron deficiency- anemia were 2**7 Gm%, 3~9 Gm%, 4^9 Gm% respectively. The leukocyte counts were variable but most of aplastic anemia patients (85.4%) had leukopenia and the leukocyte counts were 3,000〜30,000 in most of leukemia patient. Thrombocytopenia was observed in I.T.P., aplastic anemia, leukemia, Kasabach* Merritt syndrome, and neonatal thrombocytopenia but leukemia patients had higher platelet counts than other disorders.
