Abstract
The authors studied the plasma antidiuretic hormone levels of cord blood in 40 cases of newborn infants and also studied the serum sodium levels of cord blood in 40 cases of newborn infants. For the purpose of analysis, the study subjects were divided into four group; 1st group of 17 cases of vaginal delivery infants with fetal distress, 2nd group of 15 cases of vaginal roup of 4 cases of low birth weight infants, and 4th group of 4 cases of c-section delivery infants. Plasma antidiuretic hormone levels were measured by ; the method of radioimmunoassay (Arginine Vasopressin RIA kit, Immuno Nuclear Corporation USA), and serum sodium levels were measured by flame photometer method (Sodium Reagentand Standard, Corning LTD Holstead Essex, England). The following results were obtained: 1) The mean plasma antidiuretic hormone levels of cord blood in 17 cases of vaginal delivery in fants with fetal distress were 166.9±175.8 pg/ml and those of cord blood in 15cases of vaginal delivery infants without fetal distress were 328±26.1 pg/ml. In comparison of plasma antidiuretic hormone levels of fetal distress group and without fetal distress group, the antidiuretic hormone levels of fetal distress group were significantly higher than those of without fetal distress group(p<0.005). 2) The mean plasma antidiuretic hormone levels of cord blood in 32 cases of vaginal delivery infants were 104.0±142.2 pg/ml and those of cord blood in 4 cases of c-section delivery infants were 41.4±34.2 pg/ml. In comparison of plasma antidiuretic hormone levels of these two groups, the plasma antidiuretic hormone levels of vaginal delivery infants were significantly higher than those of c-section delivery infants (p<0.05). 3) The mean plasma antidiuretic hormone levels of cord blood in 40 cases of newborn infants were 92.8±129.7 pg/ml and mean serum sodium levels of cord blood in 40 cases of newborn infants were 135.8±13.2 mEq/L. The correlation between plasma antidiuretic hormone and serum sodium levels of the 40 cases of newborn infants were not signifleant(r=0.497).
Key Words: Plasma antidiuretic hormone levels, Serum sodium levels, Newborn infants.
