Abstract
We observed 46 cases of acute glomerulonephritis in children which were admitted to St. Benedict Hospital, Department of Pediatrics, during the period from July 1970 to July 1972. The results were as follows. 1)The total incidence was 7.7% of the total inpatents during the same period. 2) The sex incidence was higher in boys than in girls and the ratio was 1. 7 : 1. The age incidence was highest in the age of 4 to 6. The seasonal highest incidence occured from October to March. 3) The most common preceding disease was upper respiratory infections which totaled 47. 8% and remaining 30.4% were of untaown etiology. 4)The most common chief complaint was edema in 89.1%, followed by hematuria, oliguria, abdominal pain, nausea & vomiting and anorexia in orders. 5)The laboratory findings revealed hematuria, proteinuria, casts in urine in: most of cases, and mild degree of anemia and increased E.S.R. and decreased serum albumin in 3.3%. 6) Hypertension was seen in 65.2% and showed cardiomegaly, pleural effusion in chest X-ray findings. 7)Complication was not seen in thfe series. 8)The recovery rate on urine findings was 82.6% and 39.1% of them were recovered within 2 weeks after admission.
