Abstract
The following results were obtained on clinical assessment to 50 cases of nephrotic syndrome who had been admitted to the Dept, of Pediatrics, SNUH, during the period from Jan., 1964 to Sept.1971. 1.Age of onset: The fifty percentage of the cases were found between 2 and 5 years old, with the average age of onset of 6 years. 2.Sex ratio: :Male to female ratio was 5 to 1 with male predominance 3.Gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, and diarrhea were relatively common and a closer association between URI and relapse was obtained in 31 occasions out of 62 overt relapses. 4.Good steroid response to initial steroid therapy was noted in ca. 95% of the cases, but most of all cases were relapsed again. And the presence and absence of hematuria did not reveal any significant difference in aspects of steroid response. 5.Within two weeks of steroid therapy, diuresis was observed in 87.5% of the patierts, wheras proteinuria disappeared in only 46. Z% of cases. 6.Seven cases (14%) out of fifty patients died of various causes. Infection was mast common of death, three out of 7 death.
