Abstract
26 cases of partial agenesis of the corpus callosum diagnosed at Pediatric Department of Yonsei Medical Center for 8 years from Jan. 1980 to Dec. 1987 and clinical information has been analized and we got following results. 1) The sex ratio of male to female was 1:1.9. 2) Among the 26 cases, 23 cases (88.5%) were diagnosed under 6 years old. 3) Clinical findings were psychomoter retardation (100%), seizure (46.1%), cerebral palsy (11.5%), and the most common type of seizure was generalized tonic clonic seizure (50%). 4) Eight of the 26 patients had abnormal perinatal history: 41.6% of them had perinatal asphyxia, 25%, low biπh weight, 16.7%, prematurity, 16.7%, small for gestationl age. 5) We used Griffiths Mental Developement Scale to assess general developemetal status in 22 cases. None of the cases achieved the score above 85 for general intelligence quotient and 54.5% of cases were below 40. 6) 12 out of 26 patients associated with other physical abnormalities. They were craniofacial (75. 8%), cardiovascular (16.6%), and skeletal abnormalities (8.4%). 7) Associated abnormal findings of brain by computerized tomographic scan were brain cortical atrophy (64.3%), cyst (15.7%), hydrocephalus (15.7%) and lipoma (4.3%). 8) Their EEG manifested most commonly asymmetricity between two hemisphere (63.8%), some of them showed slow triphasic waves (31.8%), modified hypsarrythmia as well as hypsarrhythmia.
