Abstract
Twelve-hour nocturnal urine was collecte in 5 patients diagnosed of having complete GH deficiency, 6 of having partial GH deficiency and 7 persons as normal control group. The GH levels in urine collections were evaluated, and the results are as follows. 1) The GH level of normal control group was 16.76¡¾1.91ng/12hr, 59.00¡¾6.92ng/gCr, 16.24¡¾2.52ng/m2, 0.58¡¾0.12ng/kg. 2) The GH level of complete GH deficiency group was 3.69¡¾1.75ng/12hr, 22.62¡¾10.62ng/gCr, 5.33¡¾2.60ng/m2, 0.22¡¾0.11ng/kg. 3) The GH level of partial GH deficiency group was 5.12¡¾1.13ng/12hr, 25.89¡¾8.48gn/gCr, 6.69¡¾1.61ng/m2, 0.21¡¾0.08ng/kg. 4) There were significant decrease in urinary GH levels in complete and partial GH deficiency groups compared to the normal control group. No significant differences were found between the 2deficient groups and there were many overlapping results. 5) If the GH level from 12 hour nocturnal urine collection is more than 14.2ng/12hr, it is safe to say that the GH deficiency is not present. In conclusion, the distinction between the complete and partial deficient groups were not possible, but the urinary GH levels of the both groups were clearly decreased compared to the normal control group. Thus, in patients suspecte of short due to the GH deficiency, Measuring GH level is a useful screening test.
