Abstract
Detection of the organic lesion in convulsive disorder is very important for the therapeutic p-lan and the prognostic aspects. The results of brain CT in 204 children with seizure were evalu-ated in relation to the age of onset, according to seizure type, and final diagnosis of abnormal fi ndings by CT scan. The following results were obtained. 1) Out of 204 cases, the abnormal CT findings were detected in 92(45.1%) and by aging, th-ose were decreased in frequency. 2) By classified seizure types according to ILAE, generalized seizure in 92(45.1%), partial s-eizure in 50(24.5%), special forms of epilepsy in 62(30.4%) were noted. 3) According to seizure type, 42 cases(45.7%) in generalized seizure, 37 cases(74%) in par-tial seizure, 13 cases(21%) in special forms of epilepsy were demonstrated abnormal CT fin-dings respectively. Especially, patients with simple partial seizure including West syndrome or Lennox-Gastaut syndrome revealed the high frequency of abnormal CT, but were not revealed abnormality in Rolandic seizure. 4) Diffuse atrophy was most common in generalized and partial seizure, and congenital an-omaly was most common in West syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome. 5) Among the overall abnormal CT findings, congenital anomaly was most common and dif-fuse atrophy, cerebrovascular diseases, calcification, hydrocephalus, brain tumor, focal atrophy were showed in order of frequency. Brain CT is one of the best method for detecting cerebral lesions responsible for epilepsy a-nd for determining their nature in patients with convulsive disorder, especially in patients with simple partial seizure, West syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
